Nd:YAG is the most widely used laser activation medium. Nd:YAG crystals have advantages such as high thermal conductivity and long fluorescence duration (about twice that of Nd:YVO4), but their efficiency and stability are relatively poor and require precise temperature control.
Most Nd:YAG lasers produce infrared light with a wavelength of around 1064nm. The wavelength in this frequency band is extremely damaging to vision, but this light does not trigger corneal reflex and is invisible, so it is relatively dangerous.
